What's BH All About?
The mission of Beit Hamidrash is to provide both formal and informal opportunities for Jewish teens to experience the diversity and depth of Jewish learning, culture, faith, and community. We strive to promote Jewish identity by providing 8th through 12th grade students a quality Jewish education in a positive academic and social environment. Our program permits students to learn traditional subjects within the areas of Judaic studies and Hebrew as well as experience and explore innovative and creative courses of study. Through their participation, our students explore a wide-range of Jewish topics that raise historical, contemporary, cultural and ethical questions. In addition to the classroom environment, our students also have the opportunity to engage in projects and programs that connect them with the community at large.
It is our goal to strengthen the Jewish commitment of our teens and to develop a positive Jewish identity and set of values within the framework of a united Jewish people. Ultimately our students should develop feelings of belonging, loyalty and responsibility to the local Jewish community, the people of Israel and the land of Israel.
Students
Beit Hamidrash is open to all Jewish students in the Central Florida community who are in grades 8-12, whether or not they are affiliated with a synagogue. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and represent a wide range of personal philosophies and levels of Jewish observance and knowledge. Learning takes place in informal settings and students are encouraged to discover and define Judaism for themselves. We provide an opportunity for students, who may have few other contacts with other Jewish teens, to develop friendships with Jewish peers while exploring Jewish learning.
Faculty
The Beit Hamidrash faculty constitutes a remarkable group of adult Jewish role models.
